My roots run deep in the woods and on the water.
Some of my earliest and favorite memories were made outside—watching the sun rise over the water, fishing with family and friends, swimming until the sun started to disappear, and exploring
the forests around us. I learned how to drive a boat before I had my driver's license. My friends and I built forts, wandered through the woods, and were constantly discovering somewhere new.
There was really only one rule that mattered:
Be home by dark.
As life took me in a different direction, I moved to a much larger city to pursue my career. But no matter how busy life became, something always pulled me back to the woods and water.
As our family continued to grow, our summers became about getting away—visiting the Remer area, exploring the lakes, walking beneath the towering pines, breathing in the smell of summer,
and listening to the loons across the water.
And something about it felt familiar.
The crystal-clear lakes, the forests, the quiet mornings and long summer evenings brought me back to being a kid again. Only now, I was experiencing it through my children's eyes.
We officially made the Remer area home this year, and in just the past four months, I've created more memories with my family than I had in the previous five years.
That has reminded me of something important:
